U.S. President Donald Trump shakes hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the Capella

Jun 12, 2018-US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met at a luxury hotel in Singapore becoming the first sitting leaders of US and North Korea to meet. It was an unprecedented development between the two nations who, less than a year ago, exchanged insults and threats of war.

The two leaders walked to each other and shook hands in front of flags of both countries. They will now look for ways to defusing tensions and nuclear disarmament on the Korean peninsula, international medias reported.
BBC reported US President Trump predicted a terrific relationship with Kim during a brief initial comments in front of the press. “I feel really great. We are going to have a great discussion and will be tremendously successful,” BBC quoted Trump as saying. Reuters reported the Korean leader also sounded positive about the prospects. “We overcame all kinds of skepticism and speculations about this summit and I believe that this is good for the peace,” Kim said.
A one-to-one meeting, with translators, followed the handshake. Trump spoke to both South Korea’s Moon and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday to discuss developments ahead of the summit.

Jun 10, 2018-North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Singapore on Sunday for an unprecedented summit with US President Donald Trump, reported AFP. The US president will arrive later today.

The Trump-Kim summit is being viewed as an attempt to address the last festering legacy of the Cold War and it is the first time a North Korean leader has met a sitting US president.
The historic meeting between the two leaders will take place at the island resort of Sentosa on Tuesday.
According to BBC, before setting off, US President Trump described the summit as a "one-time shot" at peace and said the two were in "unknown territory in the truest sense".
Washington hopes the summit will kick-start a process that eventually sees Kim give up his nuclear weapons, read the BBC report, adding that the US wants North Korea to get rid of its nuclear weapons in an irreversible manner that can be verified internationally.
However, the US is not expecting to get a final deal in Singapore. President Trump has described it as a "get-to-know-you situation" and said: "It's going to be a process."
The BBC report, quoting US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis, stated that North Korea will "receive relief" from the grip of UN sanctions only when steps to denuclearization are taken.

Meanwhile, North Korean leader Kim has also said he now wants to focus on building the North Korean economy - and thus wants sanctions relief and international investment, read the report.
According to the reports, Singapore is only the third country North Korean leader Kim has visited since he became the nation's leader in 2011.
Earlier, in March, the North Korean leader had made his first trip abroad to China and in April he became the first North Korean leader to step foot in South Korea where he met South Korean President Moon Jae-in at Panmunjom on their mutual border.
As per the report, the US president has said that if he thinks things are going badly, he will walk out of the meeting, but if things go well, the North Korean leader could receive an invitation to the White House.

लेयर्ड की तस्वीरों के साथ ऑडेट ब्रेफॉर्ट की 6 जून 1944 में लिखी डायरी के अंश भी शामिल हैं. ब्रेफॉर्ट उस समय फ्रांस की प्रतिरोधी सेना की सदस्य थीं. दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान वे ड्युविल में रह रही थीं.
वे जर्मन सेना की मदद से नक्शे आदि बनाकर पेरिस में मौजूद अपने साथियों को गुप्त जानकारियां मुहैया करवाती थीं.

सिंगापुर में क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा सम्मेलन में अमरीकी रक्षा मंत्री जेम्स मैटिस के दक्षिण चीन सागर में चीनी सैन्य मौजूदगी को लेकर दिए बयान के बाद चीन और अमरीका में ज़बानी तनानती तेज़ हो गई है.

जेम्स मैटिस ने कहा था कि चीन दक्षिण चीन सागर में अपनी सैन्य मौजूदगी बढ़ाकर पड़ोसी देशों को डरा रहा है.
चीन ने जेम्स मैटिस के इस बयान को ग़ैर ज़िम्मेदार क़रार दिया है.
चीन के लेफ़्टिनेंट जनरल ही ली ने प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में कहा है कि चीन को पूरा हक़ है कि वो अपने इलाक़े में कहीं भी फौज और हथियार तैनात कर सकता है.
ही ली ने भी ये बयान सिंगापुर में क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा सम्मेलन में ही दिया है. उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि दक्षिण चीन सागर में सेना की तैनाती चीन की राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा नीति का हिस्सा है.
लेफ़्टिनेंट जनरल ही ली ने कहा, "यहां हथियार तैनात करने का मक़सद है कि कोई और यहां क़ब्ज़ा न कर ले."
उन्होंने कहा, "जब तक ये अपना इलाक़ा है हम वहां सेना तैनात कर सकते हैं और हथियार पहुंचा सकते हैं. कोई और देश इस बारे में शोर मचाएगा तो हम इसे अपने अंदरूनी मामलों में दख़ल मानेंगे."
अमरीकी सेना की काबिलियत
वहीं अमरीका के लेफ़्टीनेंट जनरल ज्वाइंट स्टाफ़ निदेशक केनेथ मेकेंज़ी ने एक सवाल के जवाब में कहा कि अमरीकी सेना के पास पश्चिमी प्रशांत महासागर में छोटे-छोटे द्वीपों को नष्ट करने का अनुभव है और ऐसा करना अमरीकी सेना की मूल क़ाबीलियत में शामिल है.

लेफ़्टिनेंट जनरल मेकेंज़ी से पूछा गया था कि क्या अमरीकी सेना कृत्रिम द्वीपों को नष्ट कर सकती है.
वो दूसरे विश्व युद्ध में अमरीकी सैन्य अभियानों के हवाले से बात कर रहे थे.
मेकेंज़ी ने ये भी कहा कि उनके बयान को ऐतिहासिक तथ्य दोहराने से ज़्यादा न समझा जाए.
लेकिन मेकेंज़ी के बयान से ये सवाल भी उठा है कि क्या वो चीन को धमकी दे रहे थे?
चीन के सरकारी अख़बार ग्लोबल टाइम्स ने अपने एक संपादकीय लेख में लिखा है कि उनकी नीयत कुछ भी रही हो लेकिन मीडिया रिपोर्टों से तो यही आभास हुआ है.
ग्लोबल टाइम्स ने लिखा, "ज़ाहिर तौर पर अमरीका के पास ऐसी क्षमता है लकिन कई बार लोगों को ये याद दिलाना राजनीतिक उकसावा माना जा सकता है, मेकेंज़ी ने भी ये अपनी सैन्य शिक्षा के दौरान सीख ही लिया होगा."
ग्लोबल टाइम्स ने आगे लिखा है, "असल में चीन की सेना पीपुल्स लिब्रेशन आर्मी के पास चीन के द्वीप पर होने वाले किसी भी हमले के स्रोत को नष्ट करने की क्षमता है, जिसमें सैन्य अड्डे भी शामिल और सहायक समुद्री प्लेटफॉर्म भी शामिल हैं. ये भी चीनी सेना की मूल क़ाबीलियत ही है."

अख़बार ने आगे लिखा, "लेकिन चीन का रक्षा मंत्रालय या जनरल कभी भी अमरीकी सेना से ज़ोर देकर ये बात नहीं कहते हैं. ज़ाहिर तौर पर चीन की सेना ज़्यादा संयमित है."
अख़बार ने सवाल उठाया, 'चीन के द्वीप को नष्ट करने का मतलब क्या है? क्या ये चीन के ख़िलाफ़ युद्ध की घोषणा है? हमें नहीं लगता कि अमरीकी सरकार एक परमाणु संपन्न देश के ख़िलाफ़ ऐसा मूर्खतापूर्ण प्रयास करेगी लेकिन अमरीका की मौजूदा सरकार पुरानी सरकारों के मुकाबाले कुछ ज़्यादा ही डींगे हांकती है.
लेख में अमरीकी जनरलों को सलाह दी गई है कि वो अमरीकी मीडिया के प्रभाव में आकर उत्तेजक बयानबाज़ी को बढ़ावा न दे.
चीन का कहना है कि नानशा द्वीप पर निर्माण कार्य उसकी संप्रभुता में शामिल है और यहां रक्षात्मक हथियार तैनात करना पेड़ उगाने जैसा है.
चीन का कहना है कि इस क्षेत्र में किसी भी देश से ज़्यादा सैन्य मौजूदगी अमरीका की है बावजूद इसके वो चीन पर क्षेत्र के सैन्यीकरण का आरोप लगाता है.
दक्षिण चीन सागर अहम समुद्री मार्ग है और इस पर छह देश अपना दावा ठोकते हैं.
चीन यहां छोटे-छोटे कृत्रिम द्वीप बना रहा है जिन पर भारी सैन्य उपकरण तैनात किए जा रहे हैं. बीते महीने ही चीन ने बताया था कि उसने अपने लंबी दूरी के बमवर्षक विमान कृत्रिम द्वीपों पर उतारे हैं.
अमरीका का कहना है कि चीन की इन गतिविधियों से क्षेत्र में अशांति और अस्थिरता फैलेगी.

Referring to a scheduled June 12 meeting with Kim in Singapore, Trump said in a letter to
the North Korean leader: “Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in
your most recent statement, I feel it would be inappropriate, at this time, to have this long- planned meeting.
Trump called it “a missed opportunity” and said he still hoped to meet Kim someday.
The North Korean mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump’s cancellation of the summit.
U.S. stocks dropped sharply on the news, with the benchmark S&P 500 Index falling more than half a percent in about 10 minutes. Investors turned to U.S. Treasury debt as a safe alternative, driving the yield on the 10-year note, which moves inversely to its price, down to a 10-day low and back below the psychologically important 3 percent level. The U.S. dollar also weakened broadly, particularly against the Japanese yen, which climbed to a two-week high against the greenback.
“Please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place,” Trump wrote.
“You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God that they will never have to be used,” he said.
Earlier on Thursday, North Korea repeated a threat to pull out of the summit with Trump next month and warned it was prepared for a nuclear showdown with Washington if necessary.
